This is a book of fairy tales that have become terribly frightening. Three young girls are left to fend for themselves on a snowy day, with only a neighbour across the field for company; a young bride discovers the women who came before her; a friend is haunted by a white halo; a sister-in-law is not quite what she seems; and finally, Red Riding Hood, in a scary version of the tale. The stories are pretty gory and scary, but the drawings are wonderful, red everywhere, sharp teeth and angular fingers. A little moment of fear sitting on my sofa.
